Read stories full of your Bunpro grammar and vocab
Each story weaves in grammar points and words you’ve reviewed in Bunpro. What you tap comes back. What you read past doesn’t.

TranslateHow it works
Connect Bunpro. Paste your API key and Kototap imports every grammar point and word you’ve reviewed, Beginner to Master.
Start a story. Kototap writes an interactive story around the grammar and words you imported from Bunpro.
Tap what you don’t know. The meaning and reading appear, and the item is saved to your deck to return in future stories.
Also studying with WaniKani, Renshuu or Anki? Kototap imports from those too.
Questions
What exactly gets imported from Bunpro?
Every grammar point and every vocabulary word you have started reviewing, with its SRS stage — Beginner, Adept, Seasoned, Expert or Master. Items you have not learned yet are not imported. The one exception is particles like は, が and に: Kototap holds those back rather than putting them in every story, and the import tells you how many it held. Save one to your deck yourself and it joins the rest.
Does Kototap use spaced repetition?
Yes, but there is no card queue. Every word and grammar point in your deck has a schedule, and the reviews happen inside stories: an item that is due is written into your next story. Tap it and it counts as a miss, so it comes back soon. Read past it and it counts as a successful review, so it comes back later. Imported Bunpro items are scheduled the same way, starting from the stage they arrived at.
How do the Bunpro stages affect the stories?
Each story weaves in a mix of your imported items, and the mix follows the stages. Grammar points and words at Beginner or Adept take the most slots. Seasoned and Expert items take fewer. Master items take the fewest, and among them the ones with several meanings go first.
Does it stay in sync with Bunpro?
Yes. Once connected, Kototap checks Bunpro for changes a few times a day and refreshes your whole record once a day. Kototap only reads from Bunpro; it never writes to your account or changes your reviews. Bunpro describes its API as experimental, so syncing could change or stop without notice. What has already been imported stays.
Are the stories written by people?
No. The stories are generated around your deck. They are not a replacement for native Japanese; they are practice for the stretch before native material is readable.
How much does Kototap cost?
Nothing during early access, which ends November 1, 2026. After that it is $9.99 a month. Subscribe before then and you keep $6.99 a month for as long as you stay subscribed.
Does Kototap replace Bunpro?
No. Bunpro teaches grammar points and drills them; Kototap puts them in front of you in running text. Keep doing your Bunpro reviews.
